I have for a long time bemoaned the goings on with tribal politics. My tribe and others just can’t get it together. Recalls, indictments, take-overs, graft, show-up frequently on Oklahoma Is Native, another site, tribal news site, XRIOT does. However, recently realized I don’t have so much to be ashamed about in comparison with federal politics.

Imagine at this point everyone has heard the story of Rod Blagojevich, Governor of the State of Illinois. He is accused of desiring to sell the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama. Have heard some stories of tribal chiefs who are about as bold. The Illinois State legislature didn’t move fast enough on his impeachment (aka recall), so he is sending Roland Burris to the US Senate. The US Senate first said “no way,” then twenty-four hours later said well maybe. Let’s see what the courts say. Someone from the whole other side of the country (Diane Feinstein, California) chimed in and things look good for Roland Burris. Then Illinois Supreme Court said that Roland Burris’s paperwork did not require a seal from Illinois Secretary of State. But, the US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he doesn’t care what the Illinois courts say, he is going to following Senate rules. Which mean that anyone coming to the US Senate must have their paperwork in proper order. That is the rule they will follow except in the case of Al Franken, the embroiled senatorial candidate from Minnesota who cannot by Minnesota state law have his paperwork completed until his opponent exhausts all his court remedies and challenges. So, Harry Reid and the US Senate are saying no to Burris because his paperwork isn’t valid (hey, NDN’s are use to it, we have had to deal with CDIB’s all this time), but say yes to Franken and they won’t care about proper paperwork on that case.

After seeing all this unfold, I don’t feel so bad about tribal politics anymore.
